DeVos Advances, Pence May Be The Tie Breaker

Betsy DeVos, President Trump’s pick for education secretary, has been advanced to a final vote through the Senate. 2 of the 52 Republicans in the Senate oppose Devos, Collins(ME) and Murkowski(AK), as well as the seated Democrats. 52-48 in favor of Devos was the outcome of Friday’s early morning vote.

The Washington Examiner adds, “In the final confirmation vote expected on Tuesday, both senators are expected to vote against DeVos, which will likely result in a 50-50 tie. If that happens. Pence will need to be there to break the tie.

Democrats seem determined to drag the process out as long as possible. This gives them more time to pressure Senate Republicans to vote against her. It also stalls Senator Jeff Sessions’ assent to Attorney General since Republicans may need his Senate vote to approve Devos’ nomination.
