Late Monday, it was revealed acting Attorney General Sally Yates, an Obama appointee, had refused to enforce President Trump’s new immigration policies and she had instructed Department of Justice lawyers to refrain from following through with President Trump’s order.
Following this refusal, the Trump administration dismissed Yates, and replaced her with Dana Boente, US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Along with Yates’ dismissal was a statement from the White House saying that Yates “betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States,” and that she “is an Obama appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.”
Boente will serve as acting attorney general until Senator Jeff Sessions, Trump’s nominee, is confirmed by the Senate, The Blaze reports.
