With all the heated rhetoric over police these days, a refreshing story is emerging out of North Carolina. After an altercation where a man tried to stab a police officer in the head and was almost shot by the cop he was trying to cut open, the two randomly crossed paths a few months after the man’s release from prison. The cop’s reaction will probably surprise you.

JD Boyd, a police officer with the Raleigh Police Department, talked to the man after running into him during his shift and found out that since his release from prison the man has found a new job and will soon be a father.

Boyd snapped a photo with the man who was evidently #StraightOuttaTacoBell. Boyd says the story is a powerful lesson that people can change for the better. He posted on facebook that “(n)o one is ever lost forever and as long as you continue to work to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday things will work out eventually.”

Boyd’s Facebook post with the photo has over 200,000 likes and nearly 100,000 shares.

Officer Boyd’s full statement is below.

“Almost a year ago this man and I were involved in a major altercation where he tried to stab me in the head and I nearly shot him. Today we ran into each other again and I learned that after his time in prison and some help from probation he now has a full time job and has another son on the way that will be here in November. I was glad it ended well for us both that day and I am ecstatic now to learn that he has turned his life around and we can embrace as friends.

No one is ever lost forever and as long as you continue to work to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday things will work out eventually.
