WATCH: Sanders Expresses Support for Felons’ Voting Rights

“Socialist Bernie Sanders said during a CNN Democratic town hall event that he would let the Boston Marathon bomber, sex predators, and murderers vote in U.S. elections while in prison,” the Daily Wire reported on Tuesday.

“CNN’s Chris Cuomo, who hosted Sanders’ town hall, asked Sanders if he was sure that he supported allowing the Boston Marathon bomber to be able to vote from inside prison,” but Sanders remained adamant:

“Look, this is what I believe. Do you believe in Democracy? Do you believe that every single American 18 years of age or older who is an American citizen has the right to vote. Once you start chipping away at that, believe me that’s what our Republican governors all over this country are doing.”

Sanders isn’t the only high-profile Democrat to side with giving felons’ voting rights. His remarks on the campaign trail merely echoed what many on the left have been pushing for for some time.

“Last April, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York signed an executive order restoring voting rights for felons on parole. And in 2016, Virginia’s governor at the time, Democrat Terry McAuliffe, took executive action to restore voting rights to former felons,” Fox News reported.

“Opponents of allowing those in prison to vote argue that if you’re not willing to follow the law, then you should not have a role in making law for everyone, either directly by voting on referendums and ballot initiatives or indirectly by electing lawmakers.”
