And conservatives might have cause to cheer. A poll out Thursday from Axios and SurveyMonkey indicates that “[f]ive Senate Democrats would lose to Republican candidates if the elections were held today and three have approval ratings under 50%.”
The most vulnerable Democrats coming up for reelection in 2018 are, unsurprisingly, those from red states where Trump is more popular than they. The poll singles out Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jon Tester (R-MT) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO): “Each of their approval ratings is either under 50% or just above it, while Trump’s is well above that in all three states.”
Of course, the pollsters and writers at Axios are quick to note that it is still pretty early in the midterms game, anything can happen in the next few months before November.
Things are looking less rosy for Republicans in the House (and the generic ballot has Democrats in the lead overall…), but the Senate does not look like it will come under any gigantic blue wave—provided, of course, Republicans make tracks for the polls.
