Mississippi State Senator Chris McDaniel is calling for Senator Roger Wicker to “stand up for Mississippi gun owners” in the wake of gun control proposals being discussed in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida nearly two weeks ago.
In a Twitter statement, McDaniel said Wicker should rebuke Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for caving to the “anti gun lobby.”
“Senate leadership is trying to go after our gun rights — today! I call on Roger Wicker to oppose the McConnell Cornyn cave to anti gun lobby and stand up for Mississippi gun owners,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel is believed to be strongly considering challenging Wicker in this year’s primary and may make an announcement soon, reports say.
That’s certainly not what Wicker would like to hear. According to the latest poll from JMC, only 43% of Mississippians have a favorable view of Wicker, and it only gets worse: just 38% of those polled would vote for Wicker in the primary.
