The results are in for the Detroit News/MIRS Mackinac Presidential Straw Poll at the Michigan Republican Party’s Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference and Rand Paul came out on top. Paul won with 22.17% of the vote. Carly Fiorina came in second and John Kasich came in third.

Here are the results released so far:

Rand Paul – 22.17%

Carly Fiorina – 15.03%

John Kasich – 13.76%

Ted Cruz – 12.99%

The event takes place every two years on Michigan’s beautiful Mackinac Island and is highly regarded among Michigan politicos as a “must attend.” Mitt Romney won the 2007 and 2011 straw polls before going on to win Michigan in 2008 and 2012.

The politicking for the straw poll was far more secretive this year, but very much ongoing behind the scenes.
