Man Steals Phone, Returns It with Apologetic Note

An apologetic note might be enough to get you off the hook with the owner of a phone you still, but it is not enough to get the police to call of the search for you.

That’s a man who stole a cell phone from a Trenton welding shop  on Friday, September 11, learned when he returned the stolen property along with a remorseful note on Wednesday. The note read, in part, “I’m the one who took your phone. I’m in a desperate situation.”

The owner of the phone was not interested in pursuing the issue further, hoping that the thief had learned his lesson.

The police, however, are continuing the search for the suspect. “If he really would like to to the right thing, he should turn himself in to police,” Police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said Thursday.
