Obama Escalates DHS Budget Fight

The stalemate on funding for the Department of Homeland Security continues this week, and the White House has stepped up its rhetoric in a game of chicken with the Republican-led Congress.

Next week the White House will be host a summit on counter-terrorism in which it is expected the president will use the opportunity to press for an immediate approval of DHS funding amid increased concerns of another 9/11-style attack on American soil at the hands of ISIS.

That coupled with Vice President Biden’s travels and the frenzied calls and meetings by DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson promise to pour gasoline on the fire of the debate.

Senate Republicans lack the 60 votes necessary to move to cloture and vote on the House measure that would fund DHS through September of this year but would also block President Obama’s executive amnesty edict.
