Christie Doubles-Down on Cowboys Support

Of all the potential scandals that could arise amid the speculation over presidential aspirations, the NFL and team loyalty might be considered lowest on the scale of possibility. But Chris Christie has met it.

A longtime Dallas Cowboys fan, Christie was caught on film giving a ‘bear hug’ to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after the come-back win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Naturally this had speculation awash over social media concerning whether that fandom could kill his chances of earning support among his fellow New Englanders in a potential GOP presidential bid.

Former Michigan GOP Chairman Saul Anuzis tweeted of the brouhaha, “Just watched Christie cheer for the Dallas Cowboys on the last touchdown…he’s OUT as a possible nominee:)”

Though Christie quickly responded to questions about the hug suggesting that his Cowboys support would certainly help him in Texas – and thus lending further insight into his thinking on a White House bid, “I think our chances have improved.”
