Following the vaccine mandates in New York City by Mayor Bill de Blasio, new Bostonian Mayor, Michelle Wu has mandated a vaccine requirement for all indoor businesses.
All individuals 12 years old and up will be required to show proof of at least one vaccination starting on January 15, 2022. By February 15, 2022, it will be required to have proof of two vaccinations. And, on March 1 and May 1 respectively for children 5 and up.
Former acting Mayor in Boston, Kim Janey, compared these types of mandates to Jim Crowe laws. Janey, a black woman, stated, “There’s a long history in this country of people needing to show their papers — whether we are talking about this from the standpoint of, you know, during slavery, post-slavery, as recent as, you know, what the immigrant population has to go through”.
