New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned in disgrace Monday night after multiple women accused him of abusive sexual behavior.
One woman alleged he repeatedly and violently slapped her-far beyond any bedroom play.
Schneiderman was a prominent foe of President Trump, frequently taking to social media to attack the President.
According to Politico:
“New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, a frequent antagonist of President Donald Trump, resigned his post following an explosive report that detailed allegations against him of physical abuse by four women.
Schneiderman, who had been a rising star in the Democratic Party, said he will resign effective Tuesday at the close of business. He challenged the accusations of abuse by women with whom he had romantic relationships.
The New Yorker report began a startling and immediate fall for Schneiderman with politicians including New York‘s Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo — a presidential aspirant who is facing a rising primary threat from Cynthia Nixon — calling for the attorney general’s resignation.
“While these allegations are unrelated to my professional conduct or the operations of the office, they will effectively prevent me from leading the office’s work at this critical time. I therefore resign my office, effective at the close of business on May 8, 2018.”
Cuomo, who has never enjoyed a close relationship with Schneiderman, was among the first and most prominent of his fellow Democrats to call for the attorney general’s ouster, as the governor faces his own reelection campaign and a rumored run for president in 2020. “
