Chris McDaniel made it official earlier today: he is running for US Senate against establishment Senator Roger Wicker.
Speaking at a rally in his hometown, McDaniel delivered a fiery speech that is sure to turn heads in Washington DC.
“We haven’t forgotten,” McDaniel said, referring to the contentious 2014 campaign against Thad Cochran. “It’s been four years, but we still Remember Mississippi, don’t we? Some fights are worth having…People have to rise up and do the right thing, even when it hurts.”
McDaniel says the Republican Party he joined as a teenager is no longer what it once was.
“The party I joined at 13 has lost its way,” McDaniel said. “Anything for power, anything for personal wealth, nothing about the Constitution! Founding principles matter.”
McDaniel says sending the same people to Washington and expecting better results is “the definition of insanity.”
“For 100 years we’ve sent Senators and Congressman to DC to beg at the trough, but where do you think they got that money? The people of Mississippi!”
McDaniel also took shots at establishment politicians.
“They come home and tell you what you want to hear, (but) they betray you to empower themselves,” McDaniel said. “They think they’re so sophisticated, but they can’t even balance a budget! They think they’re so cool.”
McDaniel says he’s had enough of making deals with Democrats.
“I’m sick of sending people from Mississippi to DC who score points for the other team,” McDaniel said. “I’m tired of reaching across the isle. We’ve been reaching for 50 years and what do we have? It’s our Congress, they work for us, not the other way around.”
McDaniel says Wicker is only pretending to support President Trump for his own political benefit.
“Thank God for President Trump,” McDaniel said. “He’s made Roger Wicker a Conservative for about 3 weeks now.”
McDaniel says he supports President Trump, and he won’t take direction from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“I’m going to DC to help President Trump drain the swamp,” McDaniel said. “I’m not going to beg, I’m going to fight. I’m not going to be a leadership lapdog, I’ll be Mississippi’s bulldog.”
McDaniel says he will be a Senator in the mold of Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee.
“Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul-they’re fighting, but they need help,” McDaniel said. “We’re gonna give Donald Trump the help he needs to have a conservative Senate. Roger Wicker votes more with Chuck Schumer than with Rand Paul, that’s a problem…Do you want a conservative? Or someone who pretends to be on TV?”
McDaniel ended his speech with a reminder about how desperate the establishment is to continue the status quo, vowing to run a campaign on the issues, and also challenging Wicker to a debate.
“The establishment will do anything to maintain power,” McDaniel said. “They’ll destroy as many lives as they can. Dirty tricks, dirty campaigns-it’s inexcusable. We’ll run a campaign on the issues. I challenge Roger Wicker to debate me anytime, anywhere.”
