President Trump has made it clear to Democrats that any deal to save the controversial Obama era DACA program must include the border wall, as well as the end of chain migration.
DACA, Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals, allows children of illegal immigrants to temporarily stay in the United States.
The issue will be a topic of discussion in early 2018 with President Trump and Congressional leaders.
President Trump also says that chain migration elimination would be needed to deliver a deal on DACA. Chain migration allows family members of immigrants to be granted preference over other immigrants who may have more to offer. The program has been in the spotlight recently after allowing terrorists to enter the United States, and President Trump wants it eliminated.
According to Breitbart:
“President Donald Trump delivered an ultimatum to Democrats regarding amnesty for DACA recipients, saying there would be no deal without funding for the border wall.
“The Democrats have been told, and fully understand, that there can be no DACA without the desperately needed WALL at the Southern Border and an END to the horrible Chain Migration & ridiculous Lottery System of Immigration etc,” Trump wrote on Twitter on Friday morning. “We must protect our Country at all cost!”
The president repeated comments about the wall and a DACA deal in an interview with the New York Times on Thursday.
“Look, I wouldn’t do a DACA plan without a wall. Because we need it,” he said. “We see the drugs pouring into the country, we need the wall.”
