Embattled County Clerk Kim Davis was released from jail on Tuesday by order of District Judge Jim Bunning who had previously ordered her arrest for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Bunning cited the fact that licenses had been issued by Davis’ deputies in her absence which served as a sufficient remedy for his insistence that the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage be followed.
Threatening her with further action, however, Bunning warned Davis not to interfere with the ongoing issuance of marriage licenses by the deputies.
The issue took on new national attention after GOP candidate Mike Huckabee rallied support among evangelical voters to demand her release arguing that the case represents a new turn in the fight for religious freedom.
