With the latest undercover sting video released on Saturday by the Center for Medical Progress, the furor over Planned Parenthood’s federal tax subsidies show no signs of dissipating.
Amid the expectation of as many as five more videos with potentially more damning details, Sen. Ted Cruz has taken up the cause to defund the organization with the announcement of a new effort.
Making good on a threat during the first Republican debate, Cruz has promised in a USA Today op-ed to “lead the fight” to prevent further taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood arguing that “funding the federal government does not require funding Planned Parenthood.”
As the consolidation of GOP voter blocs continues, Cruz has emerged largely as the champion of evangelical voters amid the post-debate decline of Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, both of whom won successive Iowa Caucuses on the support of that base.
