Scott Walker continues among the top tier of Republican candidates and maintains the lead spot in Iowa going into next week’s Fox News debate.
The influence that that position holds over the field is considerable, which could mean that the Florida primary quickly gets shunned by GOP slate.
According to those present at a Missouri fundraising event this week, Walker reported to donors that he intends to entirely skip Florida since it would represent a waste of money.
Walker explained that the battle for the states delegates between favorites sons Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio would crowd out the other candidates, and it’s almost certainly one of the two will win.
The current GOP primary lineup is such that Florida’s primary will be held along with three other states on March 15th, fully two weeks after Super Tuesday.
If Walker sticks to his guns on skipping Florida, other candidates may follow suit which could change the landscape of the race significantly.
