GOP Attacks Obamacare Insurance Premium Hikes

With Obamacare still intact after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on state subsidies, Republicans are taking aim at its most critical weakness, the Washington Examiner reports.

After last month’s required disclosure by insurance companies of projected premium increases, it was revealed some policy holders may see rate hikes as high as 50%.

House Ways & Means Committee members criticized the Obama administration last week in a hearing on health care costs arguing that the law’s trajectory is unsustainable with costs hikes to be expected for the foreseeable future.

“Obamacare is looking pretty wobbly,” said Rep. Pete Roskam, R-Ill.

Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan provided what will likely become a repeated point of attack against pro-Obamacare Democrats detailing that the Affordable Care Act is not at all affordable.

“The whole point of Obamacare was to make health care more affordable,” Ryan said. “But premiums aren’t going down; they’re going up — way up.”
