The Letter: GOP Senators Preempt Iran Nuke Deal

Just when one might have thought the kerfuffle between the White House and Congress over the Iran nuclear negotiations was winding down, 47 Republican senators renewed the fight this week.

Released to the public on Monday, a letter signed by the senators issues a warning to Iran that any eventual deal negotiated with it by the Obama administration could and likely would be reversed in a future session of Congress or by the next president.

The letter was clearly aimed at undermining what conservative critics argue is a bad deal, according to RCP, They are in agreement with Benjamin Netanyahu, who thinks it will only speed up Iran’s ability to construct a nuclear weapons program.

President Obama fired back that the letter boils down to members of Congress joining “common cause with hardliners in Iran” and that he is “confident” about the deal with Iran that will lift economic sanctions on the nation.
