Trump Under Fire For Controversial Abortion Comments

Donald Trump is under fire for comments he made about abortion during an interview with Chris Matthews on Wednesday.

According to The Hill:

“There has to be some form of punishment,” Trump told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews during a combative interview.

Matthews asked Trump whether he would ban abortion and how he would enforce such a policy.

“The answer is that there has to be some form of punishment,” Trump said in the interview taped for a town hall forum airing later Wednesday.

“For the woman?” Matthews responded. “Yeah, there has to be some form,” Trump said. The GOP front-runner didn’t offer specifics, saying only that the punishment would “have to be determined.”

Matthews pressed Trump repeatedly on abortion and to clarify his own stance. “Should abortion be punished? This is not something you can dodge,” he asked Trump.“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump responded.

Asked what a ban on abortion would entail, Trump said:  “Well, you go back to a position like they had where they would perhaps go to illegal places but we have to ban it.”

Trump’s presidential rivals from both parties quickly seized on the remarks.”
