Supreme Court Backs Trump

Supreme Court Backs Trump

It looks like the law is on the side of GOP Presidential front runner Donald Trump when it comes to protesters disrupting his events.

According to Bloomberg View:

“The melee at the Donald Trump rally Friday night in Chicago raises a fundamental First Amendment question: When a speaker, such as the Republican presidential candidate, is confronting angry protesters, whose speech rights come first: the speaker’s or the protesters’?

The U.S. Supreme Court’s answer to this question has evolved over the years. At one time, the court was ambivalent, sometimes favoring the speaker and sometimes willing to shut down the speaker to avoid public disorder.

Today, however, the norm is clear: Protesters who disrupt a rally can be removed by police so that they don’t exercise what’s called a heckler’s veto over the rally’s organizer. It shouldn’t matter whether it’s the Ku Klux Klan interrupting a civil-rights speaker or civil-rights protesters interrupting a racist diatribe. The law considers the speaker’s rights as paramount.”

  1. the court made a very solid point. the speaker comes first, this is how it has always been and always should be. disrupter’s are always in the wrong for causing a disturbance. point is point, just like a judge in a courtroom….

  2. Which Court was that? We now have 4 ½ far-left radicals on the Court and to them, the content of the speech will weigh heavily.

  3. This is very logical to begin with. If the freedom of speech could only be affected by the potential for riots due to direct attacks upon individuals present, then let the games begin. The protestors, then, would be in violation because they are not deliberately included in the function. In fact, they are invaders, actually, willing on their own to face whatever is said for the purpose of disruption, thus left without argument when the police begin hauling them out.

This is great to know, and not just because of the support, or lack of it, for Donald Trump. It is great because it gives us the confidence that at least this particular right is being protected and secured. In light of the current situation in the Supreme Court, it is good to know an opportunity to slant the original intention has not been taken.

  4. Donald Trump Rallies are a “Private Event” (open to the public) “On Private Property”….”Paid For By Trump”.

Disrupting Mr. Trump’s speech falls under the ~ “Disturbing the Peace” laws of any state. “Disruptors” can and should be arrest and removed by law enforcement officials and charged with….AT LEAST that section of the law.
