Popular South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy blasted GOP Presidential candidate Ted Cruz after Gowdy says Cruz allies spread false rumors about him.

The rumors claimed Gowdy was ditching Rubio for Cruz…

According to the Washington Examiner:

“Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina congressman who supports Marco Rubio, called for Ted Cruz to repudiate the most recent bit of “underhanded tactics” ahead of the South Carolina primary.

“In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Sen. Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator,” Gowdy said. “Now, Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I’m instead supporting Ted Cruz.

“Nothing could be further from the truth and I’m demanding that Sen. Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics,” Gowdy continued. “We can have a debate about the future of our party and our country. But we need not leave our integrity behind.”

In the Facebook post at hand by a page titled “Trey Gowdy Prayers,” it says that the most recent debate “revealed [Rubio’s] total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight,” before switching the faux endorsement to Cruz.”

  1. Hard to know how rumors start and who started them!! How much you want to bet that in time these “Cruz allies” will be found to not really be Cruz supporters at all! Seeking to cause dissension amongst Conservatives!! Pray hard and work hard too!

    • Great post! Given the vast scope of Ted’s available duties prospect in his campaign, it would seem to me that it’s the responsibility of the witnesses of the whole scenario to implement some discernment and salt their kneejerk reactions with a little bit of prudence & discretion.

  2. SHAME ON Trey Gowdey for automatically believing that Cruz personally or his campaign set up the fake Facebook page! How foolish is he?! Cruz supporters are intelligent voters &, the ones I personally have gotten to know, are people of integrity! We don’t NEED lies & tricks to get OUR candidate elected!!! Unlike Rubio, Trump & Carson!

    • Kaysa: For you to EVEN REMOTELY Claim Dr. Ben Carson ‘LIES” tells us ALL, You’ve NOT VETTED him or his Accomplishments, Professionally, or as a Philanthropist…Rubio & ESPECIALLY TRUMP are a TOTALLY different
situation !!!!! Uninformed Voters, such as you’ve expressed yourself to be, ARE the REALITY of WHY OBAMA was elected…BOTH TIMES !!! WAKE UP>>>PLEASE !!!??? My personal respect for Trey Gowdey has DIMINISHED
considerably as he further shows he’s capitulating to the ‘elitist’ Cartel RINO sect..!

      • Slow down folks and don’t attack each other. Talk about the issues, not belittle each other! We need to call one another up!! We need to be slow to speak against someone unless we know for sure that something needs to be corrected. Stay on the issue at hand and give the other person the benefit of the doubt until shown untruthful. I like how Cruz has been allowing Mr Trump’s youtube videos to show what he has said.

          • Cruz came out and apologized to Dr. Carson. http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/02/politics/ted-cruz-ben-carson-apology/ But all this also shows the how fast “news” in this electronic age moves! It hard to get the words back after they are spoken out loud.

Here’s how it all unfolded on caucus night.

Between 6:41 p.m. and 6:43 p.m. central time, CNN’s senior political reporter Chris Moody sent a series of tweets reporting that Carson “won’t go to NH/SC will head home to Florida for some R&R” but “Carson’s campaign tells me he plans to stay in the race beyond Iowa no matter what the results are tonight.”

Two minutes later, CNN’s Dana Bash and Jake Tapper report Carson’s travel plans during a live broadcast of the caucuses. Bash and Tapper both say that this is “very unusual” and anchor Wolf Blitzer adds that it is “very significant news.” But CNN does not say Carson is suspending his campaign. Here’s a transcript:

Tapper: “CNN has learned some news about the man who, at least according to polls, is in fourth place here in Iowa. Now, Dana, a week from tomorrow, we’re all going to be doing this again for the New Hampshire primary. So almost every single candidate is going to be going directly from here to New Hampshire to campaign — except for the man in fourth place, who a few months ago was in first place here, Dr. Ben Carson. What have we learned?”

Bash: “That’s right. We should say that our Chris Moody is breaking this news, that Ben Carson is going to go back to Florida to his home, regardless of how he does tonight here in Iowa. He’s going to go there for several days. And then afterwards, he’s not going to go to South Carolina. He’s not going to go to New Hampshire. He’s going to come to Washington, D.C., and he’s going to do that because the National Prayer Breakfast is on Thursday. And people who have been following Ben Carson’s career know that that’s really where he got himself on the political map, attending that prayer breakfast, and really giving it to President Obama at the time. And he became kind of a hero among conservatives, among evangelicals especially.”

            Tapper: “But it’s very unusual…”

            Bash: “Very unusual.”

Tapper: “…to be announcing that you’re going to go home to rest for a few days, not going on to the next site. Plus, he’s already announced that he’s going to be coming out and speaking at 9:15 local and 10:15 Eastern, no matter whether or not we know the results, because he wants to get home and get ahead of the storm.”

Bash: “Look, if you want to be president of the United States, you don’t go home to Florida. I mean, that’s bottom line. That’s the end of the story. If you want to signal to your supporters that you want it, that you’re hungry for it, that you want them to get out and and campaign, you’ve got to be out there doing it too. And he’s not doing it. It’s very unusual.”

Tapper: “Very unusual news that CNN has just learned. CNN’s Chris Moody breaking the story. Wolf, back to you in Washington.”

Blitzer: “Very significant news indeed, guys, thanks very much.”

          • Yes, the news travels very fast. The transcript that you posted is what I heard when I was wwatching CNN.

Plus Cruz was supposed to have put out sample ballots saying who to vote for. His moves are extremely strange. He’s someone that can’t be trusted.

    • No way are those (Rubio, Carson, or Trump) liars and dividers. Cruz is anything but an honest politician.
If Cruz were elected nothing would get done as Cruz will Not unite people, right? Cruz is the opposite of Reagan. Reagan united people. Thus the government functioned and people were successful.

  3. Ted Cruz is not to be trusted…..He’s a divider and not a uniter…..That’s exactly what Obama has been….It seems Ted’s dirty tricks have followed him from Iowa to New Hampshire and now South Carolina…..The guy so desperately wants to be president that it’s becoming scary….Pencil in a mustache under his nose and you’re likely to have another Adolph on your hands….The fact that he’s backed by far right wing radical flame throwers like Beck & Levin makes him even more suspect….. He’s not a constitutional advocate as he claims but rather he’s a revolutionist, and a dangerous one at that….

    • Senator Ted Cruz is the only one not name calling and dividing America with the use of insults toward his rivals. Cruz is the closes in ideology with Reagan than any of the other candidates still in the race. Dump Dump , Vote Cruz or lose !!!

      • Cruz is along ways from being like Reagan. He isn’t even close. Reagan worked with people. Reagan understood the political process. Cruz won’t unite people. Thus nothing would get done if he were president, right?

        • Everything would get done in terms of the conservative agenda and right direction for the country because we would have the house , senate and Executive powers to accomplish what the house and senate were afraid to with Obama in office. They were too afraid of appearing divisive so they let Obama have everything he wanted. Cruz is allot smarter than Reagan was. Cruz began his conservative philosophy at a younger age than what Reagan did. Reagan had personal skills but he really did not compromise as much as you think. Reagan knew that he had the country behind him so him and did not have to back down. Cruz senses the country is not as liberal as some may try and convince people to believe. Cruz is right and is the only one to stand strong on principle even if it meant rebuking his own party leaders . Cruz is a straight edge and makes the rest of the politicians look so very crooked .

          • You are probably way too young to remember Goldwater. Well, the US wasn’t as liberal as it was back then. Still the people rejected Goldwater who was very conservative. Well, the country is a lot more liberal today. So the media, and the people, wouldn’t want Cruzes bare bones agenda.

Too many people would get hurt under Cruz. So a Cruz presidency can, and must not, ever happen. Cruz is young but he’s living in the past. Plus Cruz is not a leader.

Cruz isn’t nearly ad smart as Reagan. He talks a lot but that’s all it is is talk. He tries to convince people that he’s so smart. And he is smart but he’s not the leader you think he is.

          • I remember the country was transitioning and still under the aura of JFK. Johnson represented the desire and memory of Kennedy and the people were still under the spell of Camelot. By today’s standards though JFK was more of a present day Conservative. The people are under no illusions today concerning our present two term disaster of an administration.

Goldwater was not the intellect that Cruz is and Hillary or Bernie are no match to any of the Republicans.

No, Reagan was not as smart as Cruz is. Reagan’s strength was in his personality and adherence to the right ideology and conservative economic and moral values.

Too many people are being hurt today because of Obama and liberal policies being forced on our fellow citizens. Cruz , as the leader he is , does not follow the Rino mistakes of laying down and surrendering to every wish of Obama. CRUZ, as The LEADER that he is, went against the grain of squishy DC career politicians and stood for what the American people and his home district sent him to Washington DC to do. A Cruz economy would help everybody that wants to work and improve their lives. Those that are unable would still be taken care of by the overflow of the robust development and increase in industry and jobs. His flat tax is not as good as The Fair Tax would be , but at least it is a start in the right direction.

Cruz does not have to convince anybody that he is the smartest candidate to come along in a long time , perhaps all time. Even Cruz’s political enemies admit that Cruz is smartest. “Off the charts brilliant,” is what legendary liberal Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said of his former student in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer a year ago.

Cruz is the future and the future looks real good if he becomes President.

      • Cruz is about as far from being like Reagan as anyone can get….Cruz has the support of only one senator from Utah who is about as kookie as Cruz….Pencil in a mustache under his nose and you’ll see another Adolph…..He’s a divider while Reagan was a consensus builder….

        • No, Reagan was not as smart as Cruz is. Reagan’s strength was in his personality and adherence to the right ideology and conservative economic and moral values.

    • Exactly. In today’s CNN town hall Cruz was asked a question. He was asked how he was going to get his legislation passed. How he would unite people. He didn’t answer the question. Why? As you said he does not want to unite people. Thus nothing would get done if he were president.

  4. Agree, any hacked can do this. How many times do we see on fb people saying they have been hacked. I got to from my friends today. Geez

  5. Sometimes I think people are just puppets on a string. Can we not use our brain. Mistakes are made by people. You’d know the Carson thing. You act like there was time to put together a strategy to bring Carson done. Cruz’s team took the new release and used it. Isn’t it interesting you didn’t hear from cacus goer’s saying they heard the message to change votes. Also, don’t you think Ted was busy he was speaking at different events. What’s wrong with Ted saying I didn’t know anything about it? I would not have fired anyone but I would have let them know I don’t expect anything like that to happen again.
Also how many times do you see on Facebook where people post their fb has been hacked. I had two friends post that today. In addition why didn’t Rubio’s team check it out with the Facebook people to find out if it was a Ted Cruz account. Ted Cruz has had people fighting against him every since he became a senator. He won’t be their puppet and he stands by his word. Everything I have seen, read and researched. There has been a false Ted Cruz website for years. I have been to it and read it. Also why isn’t Trump’s past record important if everyone else’s is? Why does Trump keep saying he is going to sue everyone? Why can’t he give details of what and how he will do things then just talking around it? Why doesn’t his own words that he was interviewed by a news show count?
It’s all politics but we the people need to have sense to look at the entire picture to draw factual information.
It seems to me they all should be veted and questioned about everything. I haven’t decided yet who I’m voting for. I’m leaning Rubio but I’m waiting and watching. I like Trump going against the PC crowd. I also like he talks about making America Great Again. I also like how he says it like it is. But not when he put the fulgur. I like Rubio’s stand on America’s security. I like how he conducts himself. I’m tired of our country not being taken serious. Also, how the positin of the president has been reduced to law breaker. I’m tired of having a president who apologies for America. If the next president is going to be one of these candidates then I want him acting like a man. I’m sick of playground tactics. I also think it’s time that if you can’t accept criticism because your ego is to large the job might not be for you.
So can we the voters use our brains and not emotions to decide the next person to lead this country?
Who ever Is chosenI hope we the voters vote for that person. Don’t split a ticket. That is a vote for the democrats. We have who we have now because the republican voter stayed home last time. For goodness sakes why do we keep handing the democrats everything that want. We need a person who can win and a person that can beat who ever the democrats choose. Why can’t we stop the beating up on each other?

    • In today’s CNN town hall Cruz was asked a specific question. Cruz was asked how he was going to unite people to get legislation passed. He choose instead to speak about other issues. Why, didn’t he answer the question?
Cruz just was blowing smoke. If he can’t answer a simple question how can he be trusted?

  6. Cruz did NOT set up a fake Gowdy facebook account. Trey is going to lose the respect we once had for him if he attacks Cruz with lies and railing false accusations.

  7. Not surprised. Cruz is running a dirty campaign headed up by Jeff Roe who is well known for his dirty tactics in the past. This has Roe’s fingerprints all over it.

    • Good post. Cruzes attempt at being the innocent victum isn’t fooling those that are wise. Cruz has that poor me attitude down pat. Trouble is too many fall for it.
