A secret video of extremely graphic comments offered by a Planned Parenthood executive has renewed a firestorm over the non-profit which remains in the crosshairs of many in Congress who vow to end its federal funding.
The video – linked here – shows Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services, describe in detail how the organization’s doctors go about preserving key portions of a baby’s body during an abortion procedure for the purpose of selling parts to medical research firms.
The video is the result of a three-year undercover project against Planned Parenthood initiated by The Center for Medical progress, and its implications have already spilled onto the 2016 presidential scene.
Since its release this week Gov. Bobby Jindal and Carly Fiorina have chimed in on the video with other GOP candidates certain to follow. The controversy may prove to push the issue of abortion — and funding for Planned Parenthood — to the fore of the GOP primary debates.
Jindal has instructed Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals and the FBI to launch an investigation into Planned Parenthood.
Predictably, liberals, such as The Daily Beast‘s Samantha Allen, have argued that Planned Parenthood was not breaking any laws, since the transferring of human fetal tissue is legal if the only payment is reimbursement for transportation and processing.
“Nucatola’s blasé butcher’s banter makes it clear that this is a competitive market and that supply and demand, not Planned Parenthood’s expenses, is what sets prices,” National Review‘s Kevin Williamson hit back in a fantastic piece.
Such a legal controversy makes the investigation Jindal has ordered understandable, even if liberals are mocking the conservative response.
For anyone shocked that liberals are scrambling to defend Planned Parenthood in light of this shocking video, remember that these are the same people who would like “intact dilation and extraction” – aka, partial birth abortion – to be legal.
