“The son of minister Billy Graham says he is leaving the Republican Party over the $1.1 trillion government-funding bill that passed last week.
Evangelist Franklin Graham in a Facebook post on Monday declared himself an independent.
“Shame on the Republicans and the Democrats for passing such a wasteful spending bill last week,” he said in the post.
“This is an example of why I have resigned from the Republican Party and declared myself an Independent,” he added. “I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or the Tea Party to do what is best for America.”
Graham criticized the legislation for appropriating taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions.
“There’s no question – taxpayers should not be paying for abortions!” he said.”
