The latest attempts by Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon to remove conservative voices from the Internet threatens the First Amendment, writes Alfredo Ortiz at RealClearPolitics.
In an unprecedented move, Big Tech removed Donald Trump and tens of thousands of conservative users from their platforms and shut down social media platform Parler. Ortiz writes that Big Tech silences conservatives and blocks any attempt to break away from their social media platforms. By banning Parler, Big Tech also kills competition and stops conservatives from expressing their opinions.
The reason for this censorship crackdown is for public safety, although Big Tech allows violent figures and movements like Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini to use their platforms.
All Americans should be concerned about these recent developments and how they affect our First Amendment right to free speech.
