At least thirty-one House members have been emboldened this week by the latest Planned Parenthood video amid the coming debate on government funding.
Conservative members of both houses are increasingly prepared to fight to end to ensure that any new federal budget that emerges from the House has no funding for Planned Parenthood included.
House and Senate leaders, however, fear that such a budget will be met with strident Democrat opposition and lead to a government shutdown, thus egg on the face of the Republican Party ahead of the 2016 elections.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the defunding strategy an “exercise in futility”, alluding to the unlikelihood that such a budget would pass congressional muster.
In the latest video released by the Center for Medical Progress, multiple Planned Parenthood officials are shown admitting the public relations nightmare should questions surrounding fetal tissue transactions hit the front pages.
One official admitted that “headlines would be a disaster,” explaining that Planned Parenthood leaders are still debating their policy on the sale of fetal tissue.
